11 Tips for staying in shape this holiday season
It's very easy to be drug into the deep hole that is winter season and push healthy lifestyle aside. Below I've come up with a few tips and tricks to staying in shape whilst still enjoying the holiday season!
1. Make it Social
Don't wallow in your lack of motivation alone, get social with it! Instead of meeting your friends for an overpriced festive latte suggest an active date;
- Go for a walk and admire the surrounding decorations.
- Sign up for a local fitness class.
- Go ice skating.
- Do laps around the mall and window shop
Have fun, try something new and you won't even realize you're burning off the cookies you've already started baking!
If you're feeling more adventurous and your location allows hit the slopes on the skis or snowboard.
2. Plan Ahead
We all know how quickly the holiday calendar pack up so be sure to schedule in your fitness in advance. Make a plan and stick to it! Physically writing it into your diary will make you more likely to follow through.
3. Gym Classes
Most gyms will have a variety of fitness classes so do some research and pick a class that takes your fancy!

4. Offer To Help
Do your good deeds and offer to help out whenever you see an opportunity:
- Shovel snow
- Help your neighbor put up decorations
- Volunteer at a local parade
Check off staying active and staying on the nice list at the same time!
5. Shop till you drop
Skip the online shopping and opt to walk some laps around your local mall(and skip the escalator and climb the stairs), or take the walk to local stores to pick up unique and personal gifts whilst supporting small business'!
6. Work out at home
This one eliminates your "I just don't have time to go to the gym" excuse... sorry! Youtube is a gold mine of follow along at home workouts so pick a clip and get sweating.

7. Get your groove on
Quit watching the clock at the office party for how long it is till it's socially acceptable to leave and get moving on the dance floor. Or if you're lucky enough to not be so inclined to go to such a party, blast the holiday tunes at home and dance!
9. Stay hydrated
This is just a year round statement and the cure for anything seems to be "drink more water". While running around during the festive season make sure you're taking in enough liquid, this will also stop you mistaking thirst for hunger.
9. Indulge.... a little!
Don't make yourself miserable and turn down every good thing the festivities have to offer, enjoy the holiday season.... life is more than how many chocolates did you eat last night!
Prohibiting yourself from all the treats is only going to increase the temptation to binge, so let yourself indulge in moderation to keep your mind, heart and holiday spirit happy!
10. Eat before you go
Don't turn up to holiday events hungry, it's hard enough turning down unlimited nibbles and treats, so don't make it worse by having to turn them down on an empty stomach. Of course give them a taste, but eating a well balanced meal in advance will help avoid over indulging.
11. Drink wisely
Now I am by no means saying don't drink... who do you think I am the grinch? But, choose your drinks wisely. Try and avoid wasting calories on sugary mixers and opt for drinks on the rocks or mix with soda water.
Also, for every alcoholic beverage have a glass of water... you're morning self might also thank you for this one!
