Hello...
Me again.... The one who keeps posting pictures on Instagram WAY over the socially acceptable limit... *insert apology I don't mean here*
My previous blog post focused on my journey so far as a dancer but in this post I wanted to share a little about my experiences so far in teaching and coaching... I hope it's a little more interesting than how that introduction made it sound!
I've taught alongside my won dancing for a number of years and I'd say I learn just as much from teaching a class as I do from taking one (Lesson 1: I have better music taste than most my teachers.) Jokes aside, (only for a moment though) I find something extremely rewarding about sharing my knowledge and skills with other people and seeing their response and execution of it. I am very grateful for the ability dance gives me to educate, inspire and benefit other people.
I began as a ballet class assistant at my local dance school... and being extremely short yes a lot of the kids did look older than me! Then at Tring Park (My full time dance school for those unloyal readers who didn't read my first blog) I volunteered as an assistant and chaperone at dance camps and intensives as well as returning to teach masterclasses and workshops at my old school. I find working with children and seeing their enthusiasm helps fuel my own motivation and passion for dance. Their energy and hunger to learn is inspiring and a lot of times extremely comical... believe me I could write a whole other blog post about the entertaining statements some kids come out with in classes!
Since dancing professionally I've began teaching more regularly and to a range of ages and abilities. My training in different genres enables me to teach a wide range of classes and I really appreciate the opportunity it gives me to continue to dance and explore genres I don't get to perform as much with the company.
I have/am teaching in the current styles;
- Classical Ballet
- Contemporary Ballet
- Contemporary
- Lyrical Jazz
- Stretch
- Yoga
- Barre
- Floor Barre
I try to make each of my classes personal to my clients, focusing on what they are trying to achieve from attending the class and adapting my movement and teaching style to cater to their needs. I have learnt to think from the student's point of view as well as my own to decide how much to push a dancer to ensure they get the most out of my class.

I won't lie teaching is scary at times... flashback to a recent workshop where I asked numerous times "Have you got the combination, or would you like me to show it again?" followed by *SILENCE*... still not sure if they were just shy or just confused by my English accent... needless to say none of them did actually know the combination! But, with experience comes confidence and I now feel a lot more comfortable teaching which allows me to have fun with my classes.
Having been a dance student myself (for a very looongggg time) I know how influential a teacher can be and the power they hold to make a positive or negative impact on a student. So, whether I'm teaching students wishing to pursue dance professionally, those taking it as a hobby/fun or others just doing it to stay active and fit I hope my classes can always be a positive environment to learn, move, express and share a passion for dance.
Congratulations if you made it this far reading... you're now upgraded to a premium fan of my blog!
Anyone who might be interested in taking my classes please feel welcome to reach out and message me for more information!
With Love
